Loft Living Within a Townhouse
A defining decision was the complete opening of the main level — removing walls to create the feeling of a loft within the traditional townhouse structure. Expanded sightlines, generous natural light, and a seamless flow between the living, dining, and kitchen spaces establish a sense of ease throughout the home.
Below, the excavated lower level introduced nine-foot ceilings and additional living space. Above, a discreetly set-back additional floor and rooftop terrace extend the home vertically, framing expansive river views and reinforcing a strong indoor–outdoor connection.
Designed for a growing family with two young daughters and three rescue dogs, everyday life played a central role in shaping the home’s character.
A separate lower-level entry leads to a dedicated mudroom and custom dog spa, making daily routines feel intuitive rather than utilitarian. Material selections prioritize comfort and durability, with easy-to-maintain upholstery and treated rugs supporting active family living.
Thoughtful planning continues upstairs, where the girls’ bedrooms are connected by pocket doors that allow the space to shift easily between shared and private use. Built-in window seats offer quiet moments overlooking the river and garden. Throughout, low-profile furnishings, curved accents, and refined stone details create a serene, contemporary atmosphere — open yet personal, elegant yet effortless, and designed to evolve with the family over time.
