Island Living for the Multi-Generational Traveler
The original suite layouts couldn’t fully accommodate multi-generational travelers seeking a true residential retreat. BAMO reimagined the villas with expanded footprints, doubling master suites and baths and adding seamless second floors to two residences. Formal dining rooms were replaced with versatile family bars, living areas were opened up for comfort, and dining moved outdoors to generous terraces—every space is oriented to embrace indoor-outdoor living, supporting family activities that flow easily from morning swims to sunset gatherings.
Materials and details are personal and rooted in place: slate floors ground the interiors, natural hardwood trim and local artwork add warmth, and glass pocket doors dissolve the boundary to the landscape. Lava-rock outdoor showers, daybeds, and fire features extend daily rituals into the open air.
The design focused on what guests already loved—mahogany millwork, slate underfoot, framed ocean views—then layered in lighter palettes, textured wallcoverings, and tailored furnishings to brighten the rooms by day and add intimacy at night. Updated floorplans enhance the indoor-outdoor connection and the flow of family life on vacation. Entrances now reveal the ocean immediately, sparking the senses.
Across the property, the renovation supports signature experiences: from a refreshed spa with a tranquil procession from light to shade, to enhancements that deepen guests’ connection to water, landscape, and sky.
The resort feels unmistakably Hualalai, now with a quieter confidence and a more residential touch.
