Over the years, this Spanish-style, 1920’s Palo Alto residence had been compromised by poorly planned additions. With the goal of returning to the property elegance and style reminiscent of a Montecito estate, BAMO embarked on a complete renovation, from the building’s exterior and landscaping to interior architecture and furnishings.
Public areas exude formality while casual comfort dominates spaces reserved for family use. The clients viewed their kitchen as the heart of their home. Heavy cabinetry was removed and the layout massaged. What emerged was a comfortable gathering place with old world charm, which better suits the style of the house as well as its occupants. Rich wood furnishings and a palette of burnt orange and red demarcate the dining room from the rest of the house. Within the formal living room, an antique fireplace takes center stage, replacing ill-proportioned “colonial” millwork. The result is a comfortable home full of light and life.
