Legendary hotelier Bob Burns hired BAMO to transform a derelict 1892 neo-Gothic castle on Lake Garda into a sumptuous 21-room hotel.  Vacant for decades, major renovations requiring approval by the Italian preservation authorities were required in order to convert the property into a 5-star hotel.

BAMO was retained by Mr. Burns to oversee the design of “everything the guest might see” and think creatively about the property as a whole.  This included space planning (including determining the number of guestrooms and adjacency of spaces), interior architecture, furnishings, lighting, artwork, graphics, tableware, linens, building colors, landscaping, swimming pool, even the hotel’s private boat, La Contessa.  Careful attention was paid to creating a seamless transition between old and new architecture, employing a consistent approach to materials and detailing.  Setting a new standard for luxury, the sophisticated design reflects the ambiance and lifestyle of the Italian Lake District at the turn of the century.
