With client expectations and market competition high, BAMO designed this “destination” CCRC one hour NW of Osaka so that private and public spaces provide residential comfort, are dignified, encourage social interaction, and take maximum advantage of light, air, and the garden views.
Major public spaces flow into each other in plan and section. Warm, neutral interior finish materials (oak, beige limestone, Japanese plaster, raffia, and grasscloth) form a rich, modern backdrop for the thoughtful mix of custom and carefully chosen furnishings, lighting, and carpets. Furniture dimensions and light levels were determined with the needs of Japanese seniors in mind. Colors, patterns, and textures (flower petals within glass, an over-sized hand-painted Japanese paper lantern, and capiz shell pendants) add unique touches. Artwork is contemporary, with the crown jewel by Hirotoshi Sawada – a hanging assemblage evoking the sacred Buddhist bo tree of enlightenment in the dining room.
